Finnish-American baritone Tim Mix is recognized for the beauty of his voice and his compelling stage presence. He begins this season with the world premiere of Peter Hilliard and Matt Boresi’s The Last American Hammer with Urban Arias in Washington DC. This is followed by an American premiere of Alexander Zhurbin’s song cycle TSVETAEVA with the Russian Chamber Art Society. Tim will debut with the Bergen National Opera as Albert in Werther and round out the season with a role debut of Joseph De Rocher in Dead Man Walking at Opera Delaware.

Last season, Tim returned to The San Francisco Opera as Monsieur de Brétigny in Manon, performed Jack Hubbard in the Santa Fe Opera’s new production of Doctor Atomic directed by Peter Sellers, and debuted with Virginia Opera as Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor. He also performed the Verdi Requiem with the Florida Orchestra and sang concerts of Russian song with the Russian Chamber Art Society.

In the 2016/17 season, Tim debuted at Finnish National Opera as Escamillo in Carmen, returned to the Santa Fe Opera to sing Tsar Dodon in Paul Curran’s production of The Golden Cockerel, performed the title role in a gala concert of highlights from Eugene Onegin with the Russian Chamber Art Society, sang the title role in Rigoletto in concert with the Baltimore Concert Opera, and returned to Opera Colorado as Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor.

Highlights for the 2015/16 season included a debut with the Santa Fe Opera as Count Capulet in Romeo and Juliet under the direction of Stephen Lawless, the role of Claudius in the recently rediscovered opera Amleto by Franco Faccio with Opera Delaware, and a role debut of Amonasro in Aida with Opera Southwest. He joined the Bard Music Festival as the baritone soloist and narrator for Ginastera’s Estancia, conducted by Leon Botstein. sang concerts of Russian music with the Russian Chamber Art Society, and performed concerts of Finnish song in Albuquerque NM in Wilmington Delaware.

During the 2014/15 season, Tim returned to the San Francisco Opera for their production of Susannah to sing Elder Ott and cover the role of Olin Blitch. He sang Belcore in The Elixir of Love at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in the Jim Robinson production for which he originated the role at Opera Colorado, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with Lyric Opera Baltimore, Germont in a concert of La Traviata with the Baltimore Concert Opera, Carmina Burana with the Oregon Symphony, Marcello in La Bohème with Opera Southwest, and a concert of opera hits with the North Carolina Opera.

Past career highlights include performances with Washington National Opera as Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera as well as Ford in Falstaff. With the New York City Opera he performed Ford in Falstaff and Edward Gaines in the New York debut of Richard Danielpour and Toni Morrison’s Margaret Garner, for which he received the Christopher Keene award. He has also performed in concert with Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic as Ping in Turandot. Other appearances include the Arizona Opera, The Dallas Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Palm Beach Opera, Portland Opera, Washington Concert Opera, and the San Francisco Opera among others.

Tim has received numerous accolades, including awards from the Richard Tucker Foundation and The Mirjam Helin International Opera Competition.
